St. Joseph School Sabers from Waipahu won the West Section Limited Division Oahu CYO Catholic Elementary Schools Basketball League Championship with a 6-0 record. Children at prayer

In voice and gesture, silence and song, little ones invoke the Almighty

The golden sunlight was still trying to break through the gray-blue sky, as a stream of uniformed children of all sizes were eagerly filling the sit-down corners of the lanai. The headlights of the cars in the driveway, like giant flashlights, brightened the walk to the school steps. It was early. The students hadn’t warmed up to their high-pitched chatter and spontaneous giggles. But it was just the right time for quiet huddling to keep warm on a chilly, brisk school day at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu.

My task this morning was to gain some insight on how children pray.

Hawaii Benedictines plan to stay as their Olivetan sponsorship ends

The Italy-based Olivetan Benedictine Congregation has decided to close the Benedictine Monastery of Hawaii, one of its 25 monasteries around the world, resulting in the local members exploring ways to retain their presence and ministry in Hawaii. Bishop Larry Silva is supporting their efforts.
