Photo: Silent prayer for Christian unity

02/01/2023 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Bishop Larry Silva, right, and others bow in prayer before at a large iconographic cross during an ecumenical Taize prayer for Christian unity Jan. 18 at the Newman Center at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Taize is a non-denominational prayer developed by Catholic and Protestant religious brothers in Taize, France. The hour-long service included chants, petitions, Scripture readings and meditative silence. The attendees were leaders and laity of other Christian denominations. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is observed internationally from the Feast of St. Peter’s Chair on Jan. 18 to the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul on Jan. 25.
