Photo: For the cause of peace

12/21/2022 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Bishop Larry Silva, center, poses with delegates from the World Federation Japan Religious Committee on Dec. 6 in the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. The group was in Hawaii on their annual pilgrimage to pray for world peace while participating in Pearl Harbor memorial services. Members of Hawaii’s Japanese Catholic Community were also present with their chaplain, Sacred Hearts Father James McDonough, and Marianist Brother Robert Maruyama. The former chaplain, the late Marianist Father Francis Nakagawa, forged a special friendship between the Hawaii community and the visiting organization, which is made up of ancient Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples, Christian churches and other inter-religious institutions. This federation has also received recognition from the United Nations for their dedication and commitment toward world peace. (HCH photo | Patrick Downes)
