‘The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice’
Sunday Responsorial Psalm, November 13, 2022
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
November 13 marks the World Day of the Poor. On that date our diocese will participate in the U.S. Bishops’ annual national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development — CCHD. Support for CCHD helps people work together for justice and overcome the complex challenges of poverty in order to transform communities across the United States into reflections of the Kingdom of God.
Please remember that 25% of the CCHD collection in our diocese stays in Hawaii to support building the Kingdom of God with some of the most vulnerable persons here on the islands. In previous years, CCHD funds donated from our diocesan parishes have helped us collaborate on community efforts statewide to feed hungry families with nutritious, locally grown food; keep our Kupuna protected and engaged in caring for each other during the pandemic; and assist formerly incarcerated or homeless women with transitional housing and job training so all can contribute to building a better future for all.
I strongly encourage you to give generously to this CCHD collection as a way to witness to Jesus and to participate in building God’s Kingdom where “the Lord comes to rule with world with justice.”
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Larry Silva
Bishop of Honolulu
