Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation (CCHDC) Oct. 5 dedicated the third phase of its Meheula Vista senior affordable rental housing development in Mililani Mauka and blessed and broke ground for phase four.
Bishop Larry Silva did the blessing.
Meheula Vista provides low-income seniors affordable housing with amenities that allow residents to “age in place.” The completed third phase of Meheula Vista includes 75 one-bedroom, one-bath units for seniors with incomes of 60% or less of the area median income.
When phase four is completed, there will be four apartment buildings with 301 housing units and 143 on-site parking stalls. Among the amenities are fully equipped kitchens, a picnic area, a community room, landscaped common areas, a coin-operated laundry, and an on-site resident manager.
Catholic Charities Hawaii has evolved to meet the needs of the community over the years, said Catholic Charities president and CEO Rob Van Tassell. “This includes constructing affordable rental projects like Meheula Vista. It is more important than ever that we provide our seniors with affordable rental options.”
Incorporated in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating as a subsidiary of Catholic Charities Hawaii, CCHDC owns, develops and manages real estate properties that provide affordable housing for the elderly, special needs individuals and other socially or economically disadvantaged persons and families.
CCHDC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Catholic Charities Hawaii, partnered with GSF, LLC, to develop Meheula Vista. The Hawaii Housing Finance Development Corporation provided funding and Castle & Cooke Homes Hawaii constructed the complex. Locations Inc. is the property manager.
“Building more affordable housing is a top priority in our state right now,” said CCHDC president Michael Magaoay, “and Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation is proud to play a role in filling this critical need for our kupuna.”
CCHDC also developed the recently opened Kahului Lani senior housing complex on Maui.
The fourth and final phase of the Meheula Vista complex is scheduled for completion during the third quarter of next year, with occupancy scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023.
