Dominican Sisters Now Staff Immaculate Conception in Lihue, Kauai
The nuns are new at Immaculate Conception School. It is their first year in Hawaii and they have set about with religious dedication to teach the student body of 107 children. The nuns are Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena. This community was founded by Venerable Francisca del Spiritu Santo at Intramuros Manila on July 26, 1696. Their goal is service to God and Humanity. Presently there are some 400 members in the community. They have two convents located outside of the Philippines, one in San Francisco and one in Lihue, Kauai.

A welcome document
Bishop DiLorenzo has released this week in the Hawaii Catholic Herald, “The Welcoming Parish,” a document that he intends as a blueprint for parish life in Hawaii.
The document, subtitled, “A Pastoral Vision for the Diocese of Honolulu,” uses theological principles and concrete objectives to outline the duties and obligations of a good parish.

Year of Faith to open in Hawaii with Mass at co-cathedral
The Year of Faith declared by Pope Benedict XVI will officially open in Hawaii on Oct. 9 with a 7 p.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop Larry Silva at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Kalihi-Palama.
In his announcement a year ago, the pope described the special year — Oct. 11, 2012, to Nov. 24, 2013 — as a “summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world.”
The other islands also have Masses inaugurating the Year of Faith. …
Bishop Silva has also convened a Year of Faith committee, headed by Deacon Modesto Cordero, to develop ways the diocese will commemorate the year. It is planning to publish a resource guide for the diocese and parishes.
