The Serra Club of Honolulu urges lay parish leaders in Hawaii to join with parishes throughout the United States in honoring their priests on “Priesthood Sunday,” Sept. 25.
Club president, Fred Hagen, urged parishioners to say mahalo to their clergy.
“We hope every parish does something to express the appreciation of their faith community for the devoted priests who serve them,” he said. “Recognition is especially relevant considering the small number of priests that serve our diocese.”
“Also, those contemplating a vocation will be encouraged by the esteem shown our priests,” Hagen added. “This is an opportunity for each parish to reaffirm the priesthood as central to the life of our church.”
The USA Council of Serra International is the sponsor for this event and has created a parish guide with special liturgy elements and activities for this day at serraus.org/priesthood-sunday.
The Serra Club of Honolulu is part of a worldwide organization of lay men and women who promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated religious life.
