On Catechetical Sunday we reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. This year, the church celebrates Catechetical Sunday on Sept. 18. The theme, “This is my body given for you,” is in alignment with the National Eucharistic Revival and reminds us of the gift of celebrating the Eucharist, adoring the Eucharist, and our daily call to eucharistic living.
It is also a time to recognize and commission those who have been formally designated by their pastor to serve as evangelizing catechists. These men and women are committed to a life of prayer and Christian discipleship.
They strive to model eucharistic living in the rhythms of family and parish life as well as out in the community. And in doing so, they encourage others to do the same. We thank them for the tremendous gift they share with us.
