MASS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Aug. 18 marked the return of all faculty and staff of Oahu Catholic schools to the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass, which took place at St. Ann Church in Kaneohe, is held at the start of every school year but has been reduced in size and divided into smaller Masses since the pandemic.
Bishop Larry Silva presided. His homily focused on how the Eucharist can unite us all.
Announced after Mass were the winners of Chaminade University’s Ka Ho‘oulu Innovation Awards for a school and an individual faculty/staff member.
Mary, Star of the Sea School faculty and staff received the team award for their schoolwide literacy project.
Daniel Mawyer of Damien Memorial School won the individual award for his work in technology, computing and robotics, especially his use of digital communication to help the school during the pandemic.
After refreshments, attendees listened to a talk by Chaminade University’s Dustyn Ragasa on “The Confluence of Knowing: Medieval Wisdom for Our Contemporary Prospect,” which ended the morning.
The Diocese of Honolulu’s Hawaii Catholic Schools Office organizes the Mass each year.
