Photo: All the way from India

08/03/2022 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Wearing leis, Mother Philomena Mathew, superior general of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians of Guwahati, Assam, in northeast India, is greeted at the convent of her sisters in Aiea July 26. Hawaii has four Missionary Sisters of Mary working in parishes on Oahu. Mother Philomena also visited her Hawaii community’s first lay apostolate group, Women Apostles for Catechesis. She also visited Kauai to consider the possibility of the Missionary Sisters managing St. Catherine School in Kapaa, according to local superior Missionary Sister Meristella Umdor. Mother Philomena’s Hawaii visit was scheduled to end Aug. 7. (Photo courtesy of Sister Meristella Umdor)
