Photo: Seminarian instituted as lector

03/16/2022 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

John Akau, a seminarian for the Diocese of Honolulu, was instituted as a lector at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Wisconsin with four others by Bishop Robert M. Coerver of Lubbock, Texas, on March 9. The ministry of lector, which allows him to read the Scripture readings at Mass, except the Gospel, is one of three first steps to ordination, the others being candidacy and acolyte. Pictured, from left, are Randy Recker, Akau, Daniel Dunn, Bishop Robert Coerver, Daniel Christe and Robert Dodson. (Photo courtesy of Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology)
