Here is the second collection schedule for the Diocese of Honolulu for 2022. Second collections are those taken up in parish churches for causes in addition to the primary collection taken for the support of the parish. Some of the 16 appeals are local, some are national or international.
Jan. 22/23: Church in Latin America and Black and Indian Missions
To help fund programs such as evangelization and catechesis for these missions.
Feb. 12/13: Augustine Educational Foundation
Provides tuition assistance to families with financial needs to be able to send their children to Hawaii Catholic schools, and grants for curriculum development.
March 26/27: Catholic Relief Services
Funds CRS’s programs such as the USCCB Office for International Justice and Peace, Migration and Refugee Services, relief work of the Holy Father, and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network.
April 14, Holy Thursday: Rice Bowl
Provides finding for the Catholic Relief Services’ food security projects which support agriculture, nutrition, education and self-sufficiency in communities around the world.
April 15, Good Friday: Holy Land
Supports Holy Places in the Holy Land, along with funding pastoral, charitable, educational and social works which the Church supports, for the welfare of Christian brethren of those local communities.
May 7/8: Diocesan Priest Retirement Fund
Different from the Religious Retirement Fund done each December, this collection directly supports Hawaii priests in their retirement years.
May 28/29: Catholic Communication Campaign
Helps the Catholic Communication Campaign to evangelize and connect people of the world to Christ through the internet, television, radio and print media. A percentage is kept here to fund local communication efforts.
June 25/26: Holy Father (Peter’s Pence)
Provides Pope Francis the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit those on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression and natural disasters.
July 16/17: Diocesan Seminarian Education Fund
Helps cover the education costs (tuition, room and board) per seminarian, approximately $320,000 throughout his journey toward ordination to the priesthood.
Aug. 20/21: Catholic Charities Hawaii
As part of the largest private network of social service organizations in the United States, Catholic Charities Hawaii offers much-needed programs and services statewide, serving 40,000 individuals each year.
Sept. 10/11: Catholic University of America
Enables the university to continue its work of preparing the next generation of leadership, both religious and lay, of our church and nation.
October 1/2: Ohana in Christ Diocesan Appeal
Support Hawaii priests, seminarians, deacon formation, youth and young adult ministry, and service to the poor through social ministries.
Oct. 22/23: World Mission Day
Offers financial help and charity through The Society for the Propagation of the Faith for vulnerable communities throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.
Nov. 5/6: Archdiocese for Military Services, USA
Supports the archdiocese’s service to Catholics in the United States Armed Forces, enrolled in U.S. Military Academies, undergoing treatment at Veterans Medical Centers, and the families of these populations.
Nov. 19/20: Catholic Campaign for Human Development
Supports programs that empower people to identify and address obstacles as they work to make permanent and positive changes for their communities.
Dec. 10/11: Retirement Fund for Religious
Supports those women and men of religious communities (not our own retired priests), who have served us so well in our schools, parishes, and charitable organizations.
