Photo: Tree of sustainability

12/08/2021 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

The Colors of Hawaii Nei is the name of this tree, decorated by students of Mary, Star of the Sea School in Waialae-Kahala for the Kahala Beach and Spa Hotel Christmas tree decorating contest. The theme: sustainability. The ornaments are 278 repurposed plastic bottles of different shapes, colors, and sizes were re-envisioned by students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The decoration represents the school’s spirit of aloha. The trees will be displayed in the hotel lobby until Dec. 29. Four schools were invited to participate in the competition. Exciting prizes await the winners. (Courtesy photo)
