Mrs. Simpkins represents the Australian Land Corporation, which sponsored the Disneyland trip. The trip includes two round-trip airline tickets and two nights’ lodging at the Disneyland Hotel.

Hundreds walk in Kaimuki procession to honor Mary

More than 500 island Catholics joined a procession in Kaimuki honoring Mary Dec. 8.

After opening prayers in the Mystical Rose Chapel on the St. Louis-Chaminade campus, marchers from many Oahu parishes recited the glorious mysteries of the rosary during the 15-minute walk to St. Patrick Church a few blocks away. Mass was celebrated in the church after the procession.

Organizer Mely McGivern said she believed it was the first Marian procession in several years on public streets.

First-time festival celebrates marriage and family

The yummy smell of freshly popped popcorn. Giggles of giddiness at game stations. Melodious voices singing praise and worship tunes.

It was a day of fun and ohana at the Marriage and Family Festival Nov. 26 at Holy Family Church in Honolulu. About 150 people turned out for the first-time event, which was organized by the diocese’s Marriage and Family Forum.

“Our goals for this festival were to interact with the community so that all would know that our ministries are available and dedicated to strengthen marriage and family,” said Susan Shanahan of the Marriage and Family Forum.
