Memo: Prayers for the U.S. Supreme Court and a pending pro-life decision

11/24/2021 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Memorandum

To: All Clergy of the Diocese of Honolulu

From: Bishop Larry Silva

Date: November 19, 2021

Re: Prayers for the U.S. Supreme Court and a pending pro-life decision

Dear Priests and Deacons of the Diocese,

Peace be with you!

In the early days of December, the U.S. Supreme Court will deliberate on Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health, a ruling that could possibly lead to the reversal of Roe vs. Wade, which has allowed the abortion of over 60 million girls and boys in our country. While the Supreme Court should not be influenced by public opinion, its wisdom can certainly be guided by fervent prayer. Therefore, I am asking that each parish urge its parishioners to pray that the Supreme Court be guided by the Holy Spirit in this decision.

Moreover, I am asking each parish to conduct Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament the evening of Saturday, November 27 through the morning of Sunday, November 28, to pray for this very important pro-life intention. Adoration could begin immediately after the Saturday evening Mass and continue all night, ending just before the first Mass on Sunday morning. For those parishes that are simply not able to hold the all-night Adoration, we urge you to at least conduct Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for at least one hour on Saturday evening, November 27.

I apologize for the very short notice on this initiative, but I hope that every parish will be able to organize this communal prayer for the sake of all the unborn babies and their mothers and families.

Blessings to you all, and Happy Thanksgiving!
