CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On November 21, the Solemnity of Christ the King, our diocese will participate in the U.S. Bishops’ annual national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). Support for this CCHD collection helps people work together to overcome complex challenges of poverty, and to witness to Jesus by transforming their communities into reflections of the Kingdom of God.
This difficult Covid-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on many vulnerable persons, and CCHD has funded programs to help communities come together so all families can survive and thrive. For example, in Hawaii CCHD funds donated from the parishes of our diocese have helped us collaborate with community efforts to keep kupuna and families fed, and to assist homeless and formerly incarcerated women with housing and job training. Please remember that 25% of the CCHD collection stays here in our diocese to build the Kingdom of God with some of the most vulnerable persons in our own islands.
I strongly encourage all to give generously to this CCHD collection as a way that members of the Catholic Church can proclaim the living Jesus Christ to the world and participate in building God’s Kingdom.
Mahalo, and God bless you!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Larry Silva
Bishop of Honolulu
