Support canonization cause of Knights founder

08/18/2021 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

The Knights of Columbus have been active in the Diocese of Honolulu since 1959 when Franciscan Father LaSalle E. Lenk, with the permission of Bishop James J. Sweeney, established the first council, Our Lady of Peace Council 5000.

Since then, the membership in the Hawaii jurisdiction of the Knights has increased to more than 2,000.

The founder of the Knights of Columbus, Father Michael J. McGivney, was beatified on Oct. 31, 2020, by Pope Francis.

The pope said that Blessed Michael McGivney’s “zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel and generous concern for the needs of his brothers and sisters made him an outstanding witness of Christian solidarity and fraternal assistance.”

All Knights, their families, and those looking for an additional intercessor to Jesus, can have a role in the Blessed Michael McGivney Guild, which is furthering the cause for his canonization.

To join the guild, go to fathermcgivney.org/en/ssl-join-the-guild.html

In the meantime, here is a prayer you can add to your daily prayers.

Prayer for the canonization of Blessed Michael J. McGivney:

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
