Word from Herald’s Pilgrimage Leader
Dear Monsignor Marzen, We are already in India, and so far all goes well. On June 25 we said and sang “aloha” to the group that flew back to New York and to our driver. At the same time the other half took the plane for Athens, then to Tel Aviv and to Jerusalem where we visited the Holy Places of the Passion and Death of the Lord. …
From Lourdes we went to Bourdeaux and Tours to Paris…For several it was quite the experience to ride the Metro, the Subway, for the first time. From Paris we flew to Lisbon then went by auto car to Fatima, where I said Mass at the main altar in the Basilica …
Tomorrow we fly to Bangkok. We ask the Lord that He continues to bless us and our tour.

Benedictines seeking funds for retreat center, expanded monastery
Working out of converted Matson containers and worshipping in a lanai-turned-chapel for the past 13 years, the Benedictine community of Waialua is seeking firmer foundations and more solid accommodations for the 21st century.
The six-member Oahu north shore religious community, which now resides in a ranch-style house, has started a building fund for an expanded monastery and retreat center which would enable it to carry on its mission of ministering to the spiritual needs of Hawaii’s people.
The plan would add 12 bedrooms, six office/counseling rooms, and a pavilion with restrooms, a serving kitchen, bookstore, conference room, gathering areas and a real chapel.

After 40 years, Jesuits bid aloha to Newman Center
After more than 40 years of serving the University of Hawaii and Manoa community, the Society of Jesus marked the end of an era, as Father John Chandler and Newman Center pastor Father Russell Roide, departed at the end of June 2011. …
The departure of the Jesuits from the Newman Center was announced last September by the Society of Jesus California province. The order said that the declining number of Jesuit priests and available resources led them to cease staffing the Manoa parish and campus ministry.
