The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace again has the 11:30 a.m. spot in the Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests on Friday, June 11. This is Hawaii’s fifth year participating in the worldwide prayer effort with the Sorrowful Mysteries recited by volunteers from Oahu and the Neighbor Islands.
This event is a 24-hour recitation of all 20 mysteries of the rosary encircling the world for the sanctification of priests. The prayer locations, originally Marian shrines, cathedrals and basilicas, have over time expanded to other churches.
According to Marian Mulhall, the founder of Worldpriest who created the Global Rosary Relay, this is also the time to thank God for our priests, to foster awareness of the priestly ministry, and to thank our priests themselves.
Father Pascual Abaya, rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, will open the event in Hawaii by spiritually receiving its turn from Basilica Nuestra Senora del Pillar in Buenos Aires in Argentina and closing it by turning it over to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
Because of social distancing, the decades will not be recited in groups. The event will be livestreamed via the cathedral basilica’s Facebook page and Hawaii Catholic TV – Living Faith owned by John Fielding.
Everyone is invited to join in praying the Sorrowful Mysteries wherever you may be or anytime that day June 11 to pray for all priests, with special intentions for Bishop Larry Silva and Hawaii’s diocesan and religious priests.
