On April 24, the 42nd annual Knights of Columbus Hawaii State Council Convention opened virtually with a prayer by State Chaplain Sacred Hearts Father Lane Akiona. For the second year in a row the convention could not be held in person, due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Newly elected Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, in a video presentation to the assembled delegates, discussed the success of the “Leave No Neighbor Behind Program,” the fraternal organization’s charitable response to the pandemic that provided food and essential services to those affected by coronavirus.
Hawaii delegates elected the following Brother Knights as state officers for the 2021-2022 fraternal year:
- State Deputy Ryan Brown, St. Ann Council 14620
- State Secretary Bob Allen, Kamiano Council 11743
- State Treasurer, Randy Tom, Kamiano Council 11743
- State Advocate Lito Alvarez, St. Jude Council 12733
- State Warden Patrick Guzman, St. John Apostle and Evangelist Council 14663
State Deputy Brown also announced the winners of the following Hawaii State Council Program Awards:
- Community Program Award, Kamiano Council 11743 for the Food Bank Support Program
- Faith Program Award, Father Damien de Veuster Council 6906 for the Holy Hour and Prayer Program
- Family Program Award, St. John Apostle and Evangelist Council 14663 for the Food for Families Program
- Life Program Award, Holy Family Council 17124 for the Special Olympics Torch Run and Holiday Jam
Brown also announced the Family of the Year: U.S. Army Colonel Chris and Jackie Henderson of Kamiano Council 11743 and family.
Brown also presented the necrology report remembering all Hawaii Knights who died during the 2020-2021 Fraternal Year.
Father Akiona then gave to closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned by State Deputy Brown.
