Holy Thursday

Good Friday

During the Good Friday liturgy at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa, April 3, Bishop Larry Silva and priests, in red vestments, prostrate themselves in front of the bare altar in an expression of humility and repentance. Good Friday is the only day of the year that the Eucharist is not celebrated. The day’s service includes the reading of the Passion, a range of solemn prayer intersessions, adoration of the cross, and the distribution of holy Communion. (Photo courtesy of Dann Ebina)

Easter Vigil

Bishop Silva prepares the paschal candle, inserting five grains of incense to recall the aromatic spices used to prepare Christ’s body for the tomb, and the wounds in his hands, feet and side, as the Easter fire burns bright at the start of the Easter Vigil celebration, April 3, at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa. The pascal candle, the first candle to be lit from the new fire, is also lit during liturgies throughout the 50-day Easter season and for other special services throughout the year.
