Jesuit-artist-writer William Breault finds spiritual satisfaction in a multi-sided vocation
After a disillusioning military assignment in the U.S.-occupied Philippines toward the end of World War II, William Breault’s spiritual life, like his painting career, was immature, full of doubts and conflicting feelings.
His floundering spirituality and frustrated artist’s temperament eventually converged in a society which has long been a welcome environment for gifted men – the Jesuits.
Father Breault is in Hawaii this month, his 29th annual visit. …
Father Breault has written and recorded 18 taped reflections, has written eight books, and created hundreds of sketches, paintings and sculptures.

Construction begins on St. Damien Church, Molokai
Since 1995, members of the Molokai Catholic community have been praying, planning and waiting for a new church to house an expanding flock. Now, they can finally see the first signs of construction on the new St. Damien Church, on the site of the former St. Sophia Church in Kaunakakai.
About three years ago, the pastor, Sacred Hearts Father Clyde Guerreiro, set a goal of celebrating the 2011 Christmas Eve Mass in the new church. That dream is on schedule to come true. St. Damien Church is anticipated to be completed this October.
Editor’s Note: The church is complete and well used.
