NEW SEASON BEGINS — Sesame Street character, Big Bird, converses with neighborhood children on the acclaimed TV series that has just started its second semester after earning excellent grades last season for its wonderful programs aimed at children in the 3 to 5 year old bracket.


25 years ago — Dec. 1, 1995

Bishop to rededicate Maui’s oldest church

Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo will re-dedicate Maria Lanakila Church in Lahaina, Maui, Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The oldest Catholic Church on Maui, the nearly 140-year-old building has been closed since May 1 for extensive renovation and restoration.

$1.5 million Weinberg grant will enable Catholic Charities to house ‘underserved’

Representatives from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation presented a $1.52 million grant to the Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation to create a unique transitional housing facility on the organizations’ Keeaumoku Street campus in Honolulu. …

Its latest project entails the acquisition and renovation of a three-story apartment building and a two-story single-family house on a 15,374-square-foot parcel makai of Catholic Charities’ main campus.

The apartment building will be vacated, renovated and converted into the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Hale.
