High schoolers don’t have to leave their house (or even their) bed if they want to attend this year’s Diocesan Youth Day. The Oct. 24 10-11:30 a.m. will be entirely online with both live and prerecorded virtual events.
DYD’s theme this year is “ARISE” after the scripture passage from Luke 7:14, “Young man, I tell you, arise!” in which Jesus raises a widow’s son from the dead.
Virtual doors open at 9:30 a.m. with DJ music and local youth entertainment and games. The keynote speaker is Hawaii-born Capuchin Franciscan Father Marvin Bearis, who will attend the event live from Boston and take questions after his talk.
Bishop Larry Silva will also lead attendees through eucharistic adoration and share an inspirational message according to Lisa Gomes, director of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
OYYAM sponsors DYD, which is funded in part by the Hawaii Catholic Community Foundation.
Register for free (to help give planners a headcount) at catholichawaii.org/oyyam/ym/dyd. The event will be livestreamed on OYYAM’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
