In these unprecedented times of isolation and social distancing, the need for a healthy marriage relationship is more important than ever. This is especially true given the added pressures that come from this incredibly stressful time. With so much uncertainty about when large gatherings will be allowed again, and the extra precautions required of parishes, retreat centers and other event sites, Worldwide Marriage Encounter is coming to you!
The traditional in-person weekends for 2020 have been postponed and will be replaced by a Virtual Marriage Encounter Experience — a seven-session series, 7-9:30 p.m., every Friday evening, Oct. 2 through Nov. 13.
“Because of the current public health situation, we wanted to bring the Marriage Encounter Experience to couples in their own home. We are so excited to announce the first Virtual WWME Experience in our Diocese!” said Ed Coda, who with his wife Betty are Hawaii’s Worldwide Marriage Encounter leaders.
“It’s the same great content to make marriage better, to improve communication and to deepen intimacy between husbands and wives,” he said.
According to Betty, the experience is conducted via Zoom meeting in the comfort of participants’ homes.
“Presentations are made by a team of three married couples and a priest,” she said. “Each presentation builds on the last as we examine ourselves, our behaviors and attitudes, our relationship with our spouse and God.”
“Communication tools are taught helping couples connect in healthy, constructive ways on areas that can deepen their intimacy and connectedness,” Betty said.
The mission of Worldwide Marriage Encounter is to proclaim the value of marriage and holy orders in the church and in the world.
The Codas would like to extend the invitation to this virtual experience to clergy and religious in the diocese.
Participation in a WWME Experience will strengthen their communication skills and deepen their understanding of marriage and family life issues within their parish, the Codas said.
The application fee is $100 per couple. Financial assistance is available. To apply, go to hawaiiwwme.org, or for more information, call Brian & Claudine Perry (808) 276-5721.
