Chaminade University of Honolulu is preparing to welcome students to campus this fall for in-person instruction based on a “robust” coronavirus plan the school is working out with public health experts.
Undergraduates begin on Aug. 24, graduate students on July 6, 2020.
The university is getting ready “to deliver the best academic experience possible as we all adjust to a new normal,” said Chaminade president Lynn Babington.
“We have a smaller campus footprint, a smaller residential student body and smaller classes, which makes it easier to provide a classroom experience while maintaining social distancing guidelines,” she said.
Here are the changes expected this fall:
Everyone on campus will be required to wear a face-covering and adhere to social distancing.
Where class or classroom size does not allow all students to be present because of physical distancing guidelines, a hybrid instructional format may be used. This format may include a combination of in-person and online instruction, small group experiential or project-based learning.
Classroom spaces, residence halls and common areas will be reconfigured to comply with safety guidelines.
Campus life will offer safe events and programs that follow social distancing guidelines.
The school will initiate campus health screenings.
New cleaning procedures and safety protocols will be put in place for students arriving from out-of-state locations.
Faculty and staff will receive ongoing training on the latest guidelines.
