Delegates attending the Knights of Columbus Hawaii State Council 41st annual state convention approved eight resolutions, accepted their proposed 2020-2021 council budget and elected their 2020-2021 state officers — all done virtually April 26 rather than at their normal venue, the Ala Moana Hotel, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
What could not be done over the internet — the convention’s opening Mass, the ladies’ activity, and the banquet — were canceled.
State Deputy Michael M. Madix opened the convention with a greeting followed by an invocation by state chaplain Sacred Hearts Father Lane Akiona.
Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, in prerecorded remarks, announced the fraternal organization’s “No Neighbor Left Behind Program” as its commitment to the community in response to the pandemic.
He also pledged a multi-million-dollar food bank donation and a $100 million church loan program.
Supreme Advocate John Marella, the Supreme Representative to this year’s convention, highlighted some of the charitable programs the Hawaii councils have participated in during the 2019-2020 fraternal year.
Elected as state officers for the 2020-2021 fraternal year were:
- Ryan Brown, State Deputy
- Bob Allen, State Secretary
- Randy Tom, State Treasurer
- Robert Camilleri, State Advocate
- Lito Alverez, State Warden
Father Akiona closed the virtual state convention with Benediction.
