May Confirmation Masses postponed

Seventeen parish Confirmation and first holy Communion ceremonies originally scheduled for May have been postponed until an undetermined date because of the extension of state quarantine orders through May 31. Bishop Larry Silva would have celebrated nine of them; vicar general Msgr. Gary Secor would have celebrated eight.

Also postponed are two pastor installations, two parish anniversary celebrations and two baccalaureate Masses, all that would have been presided over by Bishop Silva.

The diocesan Office of Worship sent out a notice of the postponements on April 22. Pastors were asked to contact the chancery office to reschedule after May 31, with the caution that all reschedulings are “tentative,” considering possible further government restrictions.

Here is the list of the postponed events:

  • May 6: Immaculate Conception, Lihue; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 9: St. Anthony of Padua, Kailua; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 16: Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ewa Beach; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 16: Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 16: St. George, Waimanalo; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 17: St. Michael, Waialua; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 17: St. John Vianney, Kailua; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 17: Vietnamese Community, Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 17: St. Ann, Kaneohe; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 19: St. Michael, Kailua-Kona; Bishop Silva; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 20: St. Theresa, Mountain View; Bishop Silva; installation Mass for pastor Father Sam Loterte, SSS; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 21: Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace; Bishop Silva; diocesan Baccalaureate Mass
  • May 22: St. Rita, Haiku; Bishop Silva; 110th anniversary of the church
  • May 23: Damien Memorial School; Bishop Silva; Baccalaureate Mass
  • May 23: Holy Trinity, Kuliouou; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 24: St. James, Ulupalakua; Bishop Silva; 145th anniversary of the establishment of the church; installation of the pastor of the Kula Catholic Community; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 24: St. Anthony, Kalihi; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 30: Our Lady of Sorrows, Wahiawa; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 31: Our Lady of Good Counsel, Pearl City; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
  • May 31: Immaculate Conception, Ewa; Msgr. Secor; Confirmation/first Communion
