Historic Lahaina church to close for restoration
Maria Lanakila (Our Lady of Victory) Church in Lahaina, Maui’s oldest Catholic Church, closed its doors Sunday, April 30, for a seven-month $400,000 restoration project.
The restoration will install new lighting to highlight the church’s magnificent vaulted ceilings, upgrade the electrical system and ventilation systems, and add new ceiling fans.
Dry rot and termite damaged wood will be repaired and the weather-worn windows replaced. The church spire, belfry and parapet will also be fixed so that the church’s bells can ring once again.
Finally, the church will be waterproofed and painted inside and out and the church yard landscaped.
