50 years ago — May 1, 1970

THE HOLY LAND—Msgr. Francis A. Marzen is rechecking the highlights of the Herald tours that will visit the Holy Land this summer. Besides the Holy Land, the various tours include Lourdes, Fatima, Rome and Oberammergau Passion Play, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and Expo ‘70. Tours leave May 8, June 3, June 5, July 1, and August 28. Some vacancies exist.

25 years ago — April 7, 1995

‘Family Reunion’

Battling through the spring break and Kuhio Day weekend crowds that invaded the airport and packed every flight to Maui, 400 youths and their chaperones outside the Valley Isle headed for Wailuku on March 25 to St. Anthony Church, site of the Diocese of Honolulu’s annual youth rally.

St. Stephen Diocesan Center closing to outside users to update water system

St. Stephen Diocesan Center is closing its doors at the end of July to all retreats, meetings and conferences – everyone except residents, guests and Catholic Church employees – in order to install a new water storage system.

The present water system dates back more than 40 years … The water for the 20-acre site comes from artesian springs above the facility. It is collected in two holding tanks and then piped down to the center.
