Oahu catechumens, also called the “elect,” seal their intention to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and first Eucharist at their parishes this Easter Vigil by signing the Book of the Elect at the Rite of Election March 1 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Honolulu. The book was then presented to Bishop Larry Silva, shown preaching, right. (Read his full homily on page 2.) According to the diocesan Office of Worship, 180 catechumens will receive the three Sacraments of Initiation on the Easter Vigil April 11. The diocese celebrated five Rites of Election on four islands Feb. 29 and March 1.
