Stewardship Day 2020 will bring together local and mainland church leaders offering inspiration, practical ideas and networking opportunities, Saturday, Feb. 8, 8 a.m.-noon, at Resurrection of the Lord Church, 94-1260 Lumikula Street in Waipio, Oahu.
The main speaker is Jo Ann Paradise, a long-time educator, consultant and retreat director from the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Her topic, “Love’s Movement Is Always Outward,” will address the theological foundation of stewardship within family life.
Bishop Larry Silva will celebrate the 8 a.m. opening Mass, which will be followed by opening remarks by Father William Kunisch, pastor of Resurrection of the Lord Church, and Melissa Pavlicek, chairwoman of the Diocesan Stewardship and Development Commission.
After a continental breakfast in the parish center, Paradise will give her plenary session in the church at 9:45 a.m.
The day will offer four 45-minute workshops starting at 11 a.m.
Father William Kunisch will talk about how this parish promotes stewardship via the “90-day tithing challenge” and more.
Jo Ann Paradise and Jayne Mondoy, director of the diocesan Office for Religious Education, will present resources for child and family stewardship, exploring the heart of family as the heart of servant, missionary discipleship.
Rita DeKlyen, senior campaign consultant from Our Sunday Visitor publishing, will show different ways a parish can celebrate success and how it makes a difference in evangelization and increasing parishioner engagement and commitment.
Keola Kalani, stewardship chairman for St. Elizabeth Parish in Aiea, will address stewardship for youth and young adults.
After lunch, DeKlyen will offer a bonus workshop of resources, ideas and techniques to enhance parish stewardship efforts.
This event is sponsored by the diocesan Office of Stewardship and Development and the diocesan Department of Religious Education with support from the Hawaii Catholic Community Foundation and Our Sunday Visitor.
Paradise will be the main presenter at a stewardship workshop for priests, 9 a.m.-noon, Feb. 7, the day before Stewardship Day, at St. Stephen Diocesan Center.
