A dozen men stand during their rite of admission to candidacy for the permanent diaconate at a Mass, Jan. 12, at St. Ann Church in Kaneohe. Bishop Larry Silva presided. The men have just completed their “aspirancy year” exploring a possible call to deacons.
Three of the candidates are from Maui. The rest are from Oahu. They form the diocese’s cohort 10, the tenth class to prepare for the diaconate. The men will have four years of academic studies and spiritual and pastoral preparation, with ordinations in 2024.
