Bishop Larry Silva celebrated the Mass of the Solemnity of Christ the King Nov. 24, the last Sunday of the liturgical year, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City. The Mass was well-attended. Concelebrating was the pastor, Sacred Hearts Father Santhosh Thottankara, and parochial vicar, Sacred Hearts Father Joseph Pasala. Deacon Ray Lamb assisted.
In his homily, Bishop Silva said that “if we want to restore true authority so that our culture can live in peace and harmony, then we have the best teacher before us.”
That teacher is Christ, he said, “the one who exercises his greatest authority as our King and who teaches us not only by his word but by his example what it means to humbly serve, be honest, be forgiving, and to live so that the kingdom of justice, peace and love can be proclaimed.”
After the Mass, benediction was held inside the church. A planned procession around the church was cancelled due to the weather. After Bishop Silva read a reading and said a prayer, five other readings were done by parishioners representing different ministries: Tyra Lamb and She-Marion Lamb-Price (Adorers), Jena Orcini (Blessed Mother’s Prayer Group), the Wenceslao family (Youth), Pat and Clay Pait (Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament) and the Antonio family (Altar Servers).
After the benediction, more than a hundred people enjoyed dinner and fellowship in the parish’s pastoral center. Many thanks to all who helped prepare for this event, including Rose Daguio and the Fellowship Ministry for arranging for the catered food, serving and cleaning up. Thanks also to Lisa Santos and the Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament for the dessert and for helping throughout the event.
As we observed and meditated on the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Holy Spirit gently reminded us that we must all dedicate ourselves even more to Jesus.
