If you’ve ever had to organize a special event that included medieval rituals, a dozen bishops and archbishops, live television coverage, ten ethnic groups, 750 guests, entertainment, and 106 pounds of Chinese chicken salad, you may have some idea of what it’s like to plan the installation of a bishop.

New deacon class is one of distinction

The seventh deacon class for the Diocese of Honolulu will formally begin the weekend of Jan. 8. And though it’s the seventh time around, this class of 22 men and 20 wives has managed some milestones of its own.

One big change is the addition of another formation year to the diaconate process, now making for a total of five years of preparation before the class is ordained in 2015. …

Also new to this class will be a specially designed formation program for the wives of deacon candidates.
