Academy teachers ‘surf the Internet’
The Hawaiian waters may have been warm and inviting, but instead of heading for the beach this summer, some Sacred Hearts Academy faculty members dove for their computers to “surf the net” instead. …
To get the faculty familiar with this new technology, the Academy supported 10 teachers with individual Internet accounts, modems … and communications software to use at home. …
“The impact of the Internet is too strong and its possibilities too rich for schools to ignore,” said Academy principal Betty White.

Songs and dances for a new saint
Two hymns about Father Damien will debut at two separate concerts on the last two Fridays in September at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace.
The St. John Vianney Parish Choir, directed by Robert Mondoy, will sing “The Heart of Damien,” a new hymn written by Patrick Downes, at the 16th annual Lokomaikai Aha Himeni song festival, 7-9 p.m., Sept. 18. Mondoy wrote the hymn’s choral arrangement.
Mondoy’s own new Damien hymn, “The Faithful Son of Sacred Hearts,” will debut at a special Sept. 25 cathedral concert by the Damien Canonization Choir, 7-8:15 p.m.
