HEAD OF SCHOOL, SACRED HEARTS ACADEMY
Scott Schroeder
Sacred Hearts Academy, an all-girls school in Kaimuki, has chosen Scott Schroeder, dean of the School of Business and Communication at Chaminade University of Honolulu, as its first male head of school. He succeeds Betty White.
Schroeder has also held faculty or administrative positions at Antioch University, Bainbridge Graduate Institute, and Claremont Graduate University.
He graduated from Santa Clara University, obtained a master’s in business administration from Arizona State University, and a doctorate from UCLA, specializing in management and psychology. Schroeder also completed post-doctoral work at Harvard University as a fellow at the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education.
Schroeder joined Sacred Hearts Academy’s board of directors in 2013 and was named chairman in 2017. He resigned from the board in 2018 to apply for the position of head of school.
PRINCIPAL, PRE-K-12, ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL, HILO
Michael Paekukui
St. Joseph School in Hilo has picked Michael Paekukui, the Dean of Personalized Learning at Saint Louis School on Oahu, as its principal. He succeeds Llewellyn Young who was named associate superintendent for Hawaii Catholic Schools.
Paekukui attended Windward Community College and the University of Hawaii for his undergraduate degrees in liberal arts and Spanish respectively. He received his master’s degree in education specializing in curriculum and instruction from Grand Canyon University in Arizona.
Paekukui served as teacher, vice principal and principal of Cathedral Catholic Academy from 2002 to 2016. At Cathedral, he created Hawaii’s first project-based Catholic school. He also has experience in designing preschool curricula.
He has a passion for the arts as an actor, singer and musician and has been with the Honolulu Community Theater Productions for almost 30 years.
PRINCIPAL, K-12, SAINT LOUIS SCHOOL
Devin T. Oshiro
Saint Louis School has appointed alumnus Devin T. Oshiro, as its new principal for kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Oshiro’s professional journey began at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in speech in 2005, followed by a master’s of education in teaching in 2007.
For eight years he taught sixth grade at Red Hill Elementary and served as part of the school’s core leadership team while pursuing a doctorate of education from the University of Southern California in 2014.
Oshiro’s first administrative assignment was as assistant principal at Aiea High School in 2016. He has served for the past two years in a similar capacity at Pearl Harbor Elementary School.
He attended Saint Louis from the sixth grade, graduating in 2000.
