Battle of the pancit

07/10/2019 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Three Maui Vicariate priests joined in the first annual priest cook-off at the Kula Catholic Community’s 127th Holy Ghost Feast June 9. It was the “Battle of the Pancit” (Filipino rice noodles) as each priest brought his talents and flavors to the table. In the end, the “Judges’ Choice” went to Father Michael Tolentino, second from left, of St. Joseph Church in Makawao. The “People’s Choice” went to Father Adondee Arellano, left, of the Kula Catholic Community and the “Crowd Pleaser Award” went to Father Drexel Ramos, second from right, of St. Mary Parish in Hana. Also pictured, right, is visiting Father Teddy Gaquit. The parish served 705 free “Queen’s meals” of laulau, sweet potato, poi and rice to the adults and 100 “Happy Meals” to the children.
