Summer programs form future leaders

The diocesan Office for Youth and Young Adults recently kicked off two of three formation workshops it’s hosting this summer.

In its fourth year, the Christian Leadership Institute (CLI-HI) took place at St. Stephen Diocesan Center from June 17-21. The program trains high school youth group members to be leaders at their parishes and in their communities.

Parishes nominate the teens they want to send to CLI, which focuses on leadership skills over a retreat-style experience.

St. Stephen’s was also a host site for the Catholic Hands-On Youth Mission event “Just 5 Days” from June 24-28. Middle schoolers did service projects, socialized and prayed together.

Also coming up, the July 12-14 ILR leadership retreat at Kilauea Military Camp on the Big Island is for adults who minister to youth and young adults. It’s in its sixth year.

From Nov. 21-23, Diocese of Honolulu Catholics are invited to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Illinois.
