Bishop Congratulates St. Elizabeth Parishioners on New Church
Under the hot and glaring noonday sun without a trace of a cloud in the sky the Most Reverend John J. Scanlan, bishop of Honolulu, blessed the new St. Elizabeth Church in Aiea. …
The basic cost of the building together with the new residences for priests behind the church was approximately $280,000.00. The new church seats 640 persons, which includes two crying rooms for very small children and infants.
Old St. Elizabeth Church was dedicated April 15, 1925.

Hispanic Ministry is the newest component in the diocesan Office for Ethnic Ministries
Maryknoll Father James McFadden was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. After more than 100 people eagerly filled Sacred Heart Church in Honolulu early last year for a 2 p.m. Mass celebrated entirely in Spanish, he realized the diocese’s ethnic ministries needed to expand.
This year, on July 1, Father McFadden becomes Oahu coordinator for Hispanic Ministry in the diocese.

God, sex and the universal longing
Theology of the Body, Pope John Paul II’s teaching on human sexuality, broke free from theological texts books on May 29 and 30 when nationally known speaker Christopher West came to town to present “To Fill These Hearts Full: God, Sex and the Universal Longing.”
