Photo: Valley Isle elect

04/03/2019 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Twenty candidates for full initiation in the Catholic Church signed the Book of the Elect at the Maui Vicariate Rite of Election at St. Theresa Church, Kihei, March 10. They are pictured here with their sponsors and pastors. Maui vicariate religious education liaison Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet Angie Laurenzo presented the group of catechumens to Maui vicar Msgr. Terrence Watanabe. Marianist Father Roland Bunda, Father Oliver Ortega and La Salette Father Augustine Uthuppu called the names of the candidates from their parishes, St. Anthony, St. Ann and Christ the King, respectively, and each came forward to make a public declaration of their desire for full initiation into the faith. To commemorate this special day, each received a gift bag with a Bible, a basic prayer book and a collection of Lenten prayers and the Way of the Cross. A reception followed in Stawasz Hall.
