Kalihi Parish Sponsors Project Lift Up At CYO Camp

Our Lady of the Mount Parish in Kalihi Valley announced the dates of its third camping at the CYO Camp Hauula for the boys and girls of the Kalihi Valley Housing. …

One of the counselors, Miss Gail Sugimoto, describes the camping program: “Project Lift Up gives both children and adults a chance to share what each has to give. … It is an opportunity for each to ‘let go’ to feel comfortable to just be himself.”

25 years ago — April 8, 1994

The debut of the Hawaii Catholic Conference

The Hawaii Catholic Conference itself was officially established on March 4, 1994, by decree of Bishop DiLorenzo who stated: “The Hawaii Catholic Conference is established to give witness to spiritual values in public affairs and to provide an agency for corporate Catholic service to the statewide community.”

… During this state legislative session the Hawaii Catholic Conference has focused its attention on affirming traditional marriage in light of a local effort to legalize “marriages” between members of the same sex.

Evangelization, evangelization, evangelization!

For the last several years, when the names of Oahu catechumens are read aloud at the Rite of Election, the longest list by far has been from the Korean Catholic Community. This year the group has 34 catechumens who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil, almost three times the size of the next largest group.

… One outreach effort has “evangelization teams” going to Korean supermarkets on Oahu, talking to people as they come and go and handing out pamphlets.
