Gift to expand Mandarin immersion program

02/21/2019 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Maryknoll School president Perry Martin, left, and alumnus Douglas Ho on Feb. 12 hold a red Chinese envelope which has in it a check for $225,000, a grant from Ho, a 1960 Maryknoll graduate, funding an expansion of the school’s unique Chinese language immersion program. The men are surrounded by Maryknoll School kindergarten and first grade Chinese immersion students. The gift, announced on Feb. 8, will allow the school to expand Hawaii’s only school-day Mandarin immersion program into a 50/50 Chinese/English curriculum through grade six. The money will also provide faculty professional development and classroom renovations over the next five years. (Photo courtesy of Maryknoll School)
