Catholic Charities Hawaii is teaming up with AARP and Goodwill to provide tax assistance for Hawaii seniors and its housing clients.
Hawaii elders and others who need assistance preparing their 2018 tax returns have two Catholic Charities locations to go to get help.
Walk-in appointments are available at the agency’s Clarence T.C. Ching Campus on Oahu at 1822 Keeaumoku Street, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturdays only, Feb. 9 through April 13.
Walk-in and call-ahead appointments are also being taken at Catholic Charities’ Hawaii Island office in Kona at 73-5618 Maiau Street, Suite B201 (above Costco), on Tuesdays only through April 9, from noon to 4 p.m. For an appointment, call 319-3013. Walk-in tax service is available at the Kona office after 2 p.m. on those days.
The tax help is courtesy of AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service. This service is available to Hawaii taxpayers with low to moderate incomes, with special attention to those 60 and older. One does not have to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this benefit.
Goodwill is also providing its own free tax service to residents of some affordable housing facilities on Oahu operated or served by Catholic Charities.
Tax service appointments at Catholic Charities’ Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center in Kalihi are already booked for this year.

“We are most grateful to AARP and Goodwill for providing these free tax services to our kupuna and other clients,” said Catholic Charities Hawaii acting CEO Stella Wong. “These services are particularly invaluable to those filing with the recent tax reforms.”
