Bishop Larry Silva installed two new Oahu pastors in mid-January, both among the newest and youngest of the Diocese of Honolulu’s priests. Pictured above, Father Alfred Guerrero is the new pastor of the Newman Center/Holy Spirit Parish at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, following the retirement of outgoing pastor, Father Jack Ryan. Father Guerrero’s installation Mass was on Jan. 13. At right, Bishop Silva installed Father EJ Resinto as the pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Punahou on Jan. 12. Sacred Heart and St. Pius X Parish unlinked themselves as of Jan. 1. The two parishes were previously clustered under one pastor and known as the Manoa-Punahou Catholic Community. Father Resinto had been one of community’s parochial vicars prior to the split. The other former parochial vicar, Father Thomas Joseph, is now St. Pius X’s administrator. Manoa-Punahou’s previous pastor, Father Gordian Carvalho, recently retired. (HCH photos | Dann Ebina)
