Two experts in church stewardship and development will speak at Hawaii’s annual Stewardship Day, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Feb. 9 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City.
The main speakers are Father Andrew Kemberling, president of the International Catholic Stewardship Council and pastor of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Denver, and Jim Kelley, past president of the International Catholic Stewardship Council and the Director of Development for the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Stewardship Day is sponsored by the diocesan Office of Stewardship and Development and is open to all parish stewardship leaders, ministry leaders and interested parishioners. The two speakers will also give a presentation for priests on Feb. 8. (See below)
Father Kemberling has given presentations in Hawaii in 2013 and 2017. This is Kelley’s first Island visit. Both are on their way back to the Mainland from a four-day Asia-Pacific Stewardship Conference in Manila.
The day begins with an opening Mass and address by Bishop Larry Silva, followed by a continental breakfast, networking and featured speakers and workshops.
Father Kemberling will speak on successful stewardship techniques from across the country, in the Philippines and other countries. Kelley will talk about best practices for energizing parish volunteers.
Also giving talks will be Father William Kunisch, pastor of Resurrection of the Lord Church in Waipio, who will address the topic of tithing and other ways to foster financial stewardship, and Dallas Carter, Diocese of Honolulu catechist, who will tell stories of good stewardship in Hawaii.
Our Sunday Visitor, a Huntington, Indiana-based Catholic publishing house, will offer two workshops, “Using Digital Media to Communicate Stewardship” and “Be a Thriving Parish through Time, Talent and Treasure.”
Stewardship Day is open to all parish stewardship leaders, ministry leaders and all the interested parishioners. There is no charge and lunch is included. Register by emailing your name and parish to Mark Clark at mclark@rcchawaii.org or call 203-6723.
