The executive director of the American Association of Prolife Obstetricians and Gynecologists will be the guest speaker at a three-day event, Jan. 24-26, marking the 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court Decision that legalized abortion in America.
The Annual Maui March for Life and Prayer Service is being organized by the Maui councils of the Knights of Columbus and the Respect Life Ministry of Christ the King Parish in Kahului. Other activities include prayers in front of Planned Parenthood, a concert and a movie.
The theme for the commemoration is “Unique from day one: pro-life is pro-science”
Prayers at Planned Parenthood in Kahului are scheduled for 3:30-5:30 p.m., Jan. 24.
On Jan. 25, obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Donna Harrison, who heads the prolife physicians group, will speak on the “physical effects of abortion on women” at a concert by the NBA Band featuring Billy Perry in Christ the King parish hall beginning at 5:30 p.m. The concert and talk concludes with the movie “Bella” and light refreshments. Admission is free.
Participants will gather for the annual march Jan. 26 at 8-8:30 a.m. in Christ the King Parish parking lot at 20 West Wakea Street, Kahului, to take a shuttle to the corner of Kane Street and Kaahumanu Avenue for sign-holding and the march from 9-10 a.m.
The march is followed by a program of music by the parish youth ministry directed by Frank Chargualaf, and talks by Joy Wright, executive director of Malama Pregnancy Center, and Dr. Harrison. The event will end with a prayer service and rosary from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
