Two children view the relics of St. Pio of Pietrelcina — Padre Pio — in the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace Nov. 9. Six relics of the well-known 20th century Italian mystic who bore the stigmata, the wounds of Jesus Christ, have been touring the United States since last year. The relics displayed during the all-day public veneration were the saint’s glove, a handkerchief, crusts of the wounds, cotton-gauze with blood stains, his mantle and a lock of hair. Padre Pio’s reputation for holiness and extraordinary spiritual gifts circled the globe drawing hundreds of thousands of people to seek his advice and blessing. He died in 1968 at age 81 and was canonized in 2002. The relics also visited Holy Rosary Church in Paia, Maui, on Nov. 8. (HCH photo | Anna Weaver)
