13 isle parishes to join week-long rosary congress

Thirteen Hawaii parishes will participate in the national Diocesan Rosary Congress Oct. 7-13, seven days and nights of Masses, perpetual eucharistic adoration, and hourly recitation of the rosary, all offered to restore a respect for the sanctity of life, to establish peace in our cities, nation, and world, and to console the hearts of Jesus and Mary.

During the week of eucharistic adoration, the rosary is prayed aloud every hour. Special Masses, processions and confessions may also be included. The Honolulu diocese will have a “traveling” congress, with 24 parishes or religious communities

Each parish will be responsible for six hours of eucharistic adoration and hourly recitation of the rosary beginning with the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, 6 p.m.-midnight, on Saturday, Oct. 7. Other participating parishes and groups are:

Monday, Oct. 8

  • Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa, 6 a.m.-noon

Tuesday, Oct. 9

  • St. Ann, Kaneohe, 6 a.m. to noon
  • Sacred Heart, Hawi, noon-6 p.m.
  • St. Benedict, Honaunau/St. John Mission, Captain Cook, 6 p.m.-midnight

Wednesday, Oct. 10

  • St. Michael, Kona, 6 a.m.-noon
  • St. Jude, Kapolei, 6 p.m.-midnight

Thursday, Oct.11

  • St. Elizabeth, Aiea, 6 a.m. to noon
  • Our Lady of Lourdes, Honokaa, noon-6 p.m.
  • Our Lady of the Mount, Kalihi, 6 p.m. to 12am

Friday, Oct. 12

  • Samoan Divine Mercy at St. John the Baptist, Kalihi, midnight-6 a.m.
  • Benedictine Monastery, 6 a.m.-noon
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ewa Beach, noon-6 p.m.
  • St. Joseph, Waipahu, 6 p.m.-midnight

Saturday, Oct. 13

  • St. Stephen, Nuuanu, 6 a.m.-noon
  • St. John Vianney, Enchanted Lake, noon-6 p.m. to close the event.

The parish school students at the co-cathedral, St. Elizabeth and St. Ann will also participate. The religious education students and parents at St. Stephen will join their parish congregation in the event.
