Bishop Larry Silva announced the incardination into the Diocese of Honolulu of Hawaii-born Father Rheo Ofalsa on Aug. 31.
Formerly a priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha, Father Ofalsa is now a priest of the Honolulu diocese.
His incardination had been publicly announced on Aug. 16, during the 175th anniversary Mass of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, pending his excardination from the Archdiocese of Omaha which went into effect Aug. 30.
Originally ordained for Omaha, Father Ofalsa returned to Hawaii in 2015 with the desire of again making the Islands his permanent home.
Father Ofalsa was born in 1977 on Oahu. He attended Kipapa Elementary, Wheeler Intermediate and Mililani High School.
For college he enrolled in the United States Air Force Academy after which he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, serving in a number of assignments.
While on active duty, he received a master’s in business administration through Bellevue University in Omaha.
Father Ofalsa began his formation to the priesthood for the Omaha diocese in 2005. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Omaha on June 4, 2011.
In 2016, after being back in Hawaii for a year, Bishop Silva appointed him as diocesan director of vocations.
